Sheriff's Deputy Kills Suspect While US Marshals Attempt To Serve Warrant In Maryland: Report

A knife-wielding man charged in a 2020 home invasion was shot and killed by a Montgomery County Sheriff's Deputy while US Marshals were attempted to serve a warrant at his home in Gaithersburg Wednesday, July 20, reports NBC Washington.

Members of the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office and US Marshals arrived at the Garth Terrace home off Watkins Mill Road in the early-morning hours, where the 35-year-old man was approaching closely with a knife, NBC says citing officials.

“The sheriff’s deputy feared for his life and, as I mentioned earlier, had to discharge his firearm," Sheriff Darren Popkin said.
